OPEN CONCEPT BATHROOM DESIGN

Have you ever walked into a bathroom and felt blown away by how spacious it was? Open concept spaces are more prevalent than ever, especially in the kitchen but now this open and airy design concept is making its way into bathrooms.

Phoenix-based designer, realtor, and house flipper, James Judge brought the idea of an open concept bathroom to life with the bathroom remodel of his master bathroom. Judge walks us through the steps he took to make his bath space bigger, more open and inviting using some of VIGO’s innovative bath products. Scroll down to see the transformation.

Unified Flow

An open space layout is attained by removing walls and in this case, Judge did exactly that with one exception -- a toilet room that can be accessed from a pocket door. Traditional open concepts are free from walls, dividers, and doors but a private john is ideal for a shared master bath. The bathroom was almost doubled in size to really maximize the space and functionality.

Judge notes the importance of showcasing elegant bathroom fixtures when it comes to creating a larger bath space and this is where VIGO comes in. With more square feet comes more vanity space and Judge was able to create double vanities to maximize storage and counter space. Using the eco-friendly Davidson Single Hole Bathroom Faucet in Matte Black he was able to give the double vanities a sleek, modern and timeless look.

Shower + Bathtub = Wet Room

The main attraction in this bathroom has to be what Judge calls a wet room, where the shower and bathtub are in the same space to create a spa-like sanctuary. This design came about out of necessity as he wanted to be sure to feature a bathtub in the bathroom without having room to separate it.

The wet room was designed by using a glass wall that features the door for walk-in entry. The glass doors create separation but still fall in line with the open concept by bringing in more light and creating a seamless flow. The water flows into a drain hidden by black pebbles that surround the tub in order to bring the feeling of nature to the bathroom. It’s like taking a shower under a waterfall.

The waterfall feeling is achieved with the installation of the Kingsley Shower Panel in Matte Black, a hydrotherapy massage shower panel that is fully loaded with two pressurized jets, a handheld shower, and a rainfall showerhead. The matte black finish coordinates with the matte black bathroom faucets to create a cohesive look for this modern bathroom.
